About The Role:

Working Pattern: Monday to Friday - 9am to 5:30pm

To help OCS develop and maintain a positive approach to QHSE by coaching, supporting, advising and guiding project managers, operational managers and operational teams in relation to QHSE matters. Influence behaviour and coach others to deliver the QHSE Management System. Deliver a continual risk based QHSE audit programme and to carry out accident and incident investigations (as directed).

This is a trainee role therefore additional support and guidance will be provided by the Head of QHSE for projects and the wider QHSE projects team to develop the trainee into the QHSE Managers role. The ideal candidate should be from a trade background and already have some project/site experience.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities:

Functional

  • To help up-skill operational management so that their QHSE competence, confidence and abilities are enhanced.
  • To participate in policy and process review to help achieve simplicity of access, easy understanding and full implementation.
  • To communicate proactively on QHSE issues and, as requested, prepare reports, bulletins and briefs to promote learning.
  • To react to emerging challenges and adapt as necessary.
  • To support delivery of QHSE strategic objectives and initiatives targeted at continual QHSE improvement.
  • To support the business to manage effectively QHSE matters and to be capable of taking appropriate and timely corrective action when required.
  • To carry out QHSE audits, to be completed to an agreed on-going schedule, in order to identify nonconformance and advise upon corrective actions.
  • To carry out accident and incident investigations (as directed) and produce reports with recommendations in conjunction with management to facilitate corrective and preventative action.
  • To provide competent advice and support to the business to assist adverse event investigation and proactive follow-up of lessons learnt.
  • To represent the QHSE Team at meeting and providing specialist knowledge and guidance on compliance and resilience activities.
  • To give credibility to the role by actively building effective working relationships with customers and key stakeholders.
  • To keep up to date with new legislation and industry initiatives to ensure maintenance of CPD.
  • To work collaboratively and constructively with other members of the QHSE Team to ensure a consistent and seamless delivery of QHSE support across OCS UK&I.
  • To undertake any reasonable request by the Head of QHSE Hard Servies or the UK&I QHSE Director.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

Necessary

  • General secondary education with a high level of numeracy and literacy.
  • NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety – achieving this qualification will be mandatory for passing the probation period.
  • Affiliate member of IOSH.
  • Relevant CSCS card (where required).
  • Security clearance (as dictated by Client requirements).
  • Willingness to learn Health and Safety compliance and statutory requirements placed on the business.
  • Ability to learn practical safety management and delivery experience from a Construction or Facilities Management background and branch into environmental law as part of their development.
  • Ability to learn how to investigate significant events and deal with enforcement agencies. An understanding of civil claims and criminal enforcement.
  • An analytical approach to problem solving and decision making is essential.
  • Able to operate and communicate competently with any level of customer within both the internal and external client organisation.
  • The ability to demonstrate proactive customer relationship management and effective relationship building is essential.
  • Confident and willing, with support to deal with the enforcing authorities.
  • Seek to create a “Just Culture” model learning from experience and demonstrates a positive attitude to work.
  • Behaves at all times in a morale, ethical, and sustainable way.
  • Full clean UK driver’s license.
  • Ability and willingness to travel throughout the UK&I as per business needs or direction from the UK&I QHSE Director and Head of QHSE UK&I Projects, which will include over-night stays.
